A Higher Ground - Quarterly eNews

Vol. I, No. 1                 April 2009

    From the President

It is a great blessing to announce a new informational tool coming from Avon Park Camp Association. Patricia Bridewell is now producing these updates so you can keep advised of happenings here in Avon Park. Thank you, Patricia, for a great job!

We are rejoicing over the spiritual victories won during camp meeting. Many received help at the altars, and the Holy Spirit was evident in each service. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

You can see from our schedule that we continue needing your prayer support. We know God will give us the energy and strength to accomplish each assignment. but we really need your prayer covering. The future is very bright, because the Jesus of Good Friday, is also the victorious Jesus of the Resurrection. I wonder, do you know the power of the resurrection? Paul wrote in Phil 3:10-11, "I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead."

    Grace and Peace,
    -- Eldred and Luanne Kelley

    From the Camp Treasurer

The last meeting at the Tabernacle for this 2008-2009 session has been held and people are heading home!

This year I kept a comparison of each offering from November 1, 2008 through the last night which included each Friday Night and Daily Offerings during camp. The total for this session is $59,829. That's very close to the average for the past four seasons.

We praise the Lord for the support from our people. We have 62 who have signed up to be continuing share supporters, so that is going to be a real blessing during the summer months.

Also, if you would like a secure investment and a great quarterly return, I would be happy to give you a proposal from our Gift Annuity Program.

    From the Missions Treasurer

Praise the Lord! Our missions giving total for Camp Year 2009 was $124,866. How the Lord blesses!

Although this was about 1.5% lower than last year's amount, it is great news, especially during this time of economic uncertainty! Giving is calculated based on one-time gifts and NEW pledges made this year through the camp offering. We know that this is an overall increase in total giving, as many of you have continuing pledges from prior years. God bless you for your faithful support of missions!

    -- Nina Morrow

    From the Women's Auxiliary

March 2009 continued to be a busy month for the Women's Auxiliary. After receiving the printed pages for the Camp Directory, volunteers assembled the brilliantly colored pictures and on March 11 they were available to camp members. Many compliments were received and we owe a debt of gratitude to Paula Crist for the photos and sending them to the printer. Thanks also to Patty Bridewell for her contributions of photos and the address listing. We couldn't have done it without you!! We have extra copies for you if you did not get one yet, available at camp next year for $10.

Each year we have a fun day interviewing someone special from the campground at our "Chat Day". This year, on March 17th, we honored those ladies over 90 years old. It was a fun afternoon listening to stories of each lifetime. The special people were: Flornell Coller, Lois Hetmansperger, Imogene James, Ruby Jones, Roberta Larrison, Bernadine Miller, Hettie Shingledecker, and Mary Smith. All the conversation was saved for posterity on a CD available for $5 at camp next year.

During our last Friday night service of the season, the Women's Auxiliary sponsored a "Clean Out Your Cupboard" project for those returning to their northern homes. Food collected was given to the Avon Park Church Service center food pantry.

It has been an inspirational and rewarding camp year. We pray all of our projects have brought glory to God for his greatness and goodness.

    -- Beverly Wilson, President

Around the Campground

The sidewalk from the Dining Hall to the trailer section has been completed. This should make for safer walking and clear some of the congestion from Morrison Street.

Two tie-down trailers have been removed clearing the way for three new park models. They should be installed in April along with new electrical service and sewage and water lines. With the new concrete pads and sod around these units, it should really look nice! One of these new park models has already been purchased and there is interest in the other two!

"Brothers, we do not want you to...
grieve like the rest of men,
who have no hope."
-- 1 Thessalonians 4:13

The resurrection is key to the Christian faith: Without the resurrection, we are nothing. We just toil it out until we disappear to dust. As Christians, we live for Christ until we disappear into Heaven.
