A Higher Ground - Quarterly eNews

Vol. I, No. 4                 January 2010

From the President

Dear Camp Family,

The words of a Christmas song express our deepest desires. "As we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Lord, let us always remember why He came." Luanne and I are looking forward to your return as we prepare for another great camp meeting. Our workers are ready; the facilities are in excellent shape; and our prayer times have begun. We know the Lord will bless in these days.

We trust you had a blessed Christmas with family and friends, and that your plans call for returning to Avon Park soon. Bring someone new with you this year. But, in all your planning, don't forget why we come together. Target your prayers toward someone who needs to know your Jesus.

We love you very much and thank you for many Christmas greetings.

Grace and peace,
-- El and Luanne

From the Mission Field

Dear Avon Park Family,

We can tell you are praying for us! Jesus is working and we are getting excited looking at the new year. In November, we had a fall outreach and we invited the couples to come to a weekend retreat in February. Nine couples have signed up!! Please pray for us as we pray and plan that Jesus will lead us. We need wisdom and we so desperately want some of these we love to say YES to Him and as a family start following Him.

THANK YOU for praying for us and our girls! We feel your prayers and they mean so much.

-- Dan and Katy Beth Searls

Camp Bible Study

Rev. Ray Bachman has been asked by the Camp to serve as the Bible study leader for the Tuesday morning sessions during January through March. His topic will be "Understanding Bible Prophecy Today."

This year will be Ray and Jeanne's sixth year at Avon Park Camp. He is a retired minister of The Missionary Church and now lives in Mountain Home, Arkansas. His study of prophecy has led him to write his latest book on the subject. It is titled The Love Letters of Jesus and was just released in late October. It deals with what Jesus requires as readiness for His return to Rapture His Bride. It is expected that the book will be available at the camp book store.

The first study of the winter will be on Tuesday, January 5, at 9 a.m.

Women's Auxiliary Welcome Back Tea

  *  Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at 2 p.m.
  *  Followed by the Annual Meeting.

Our new Vice President, Marilyn Brownrigg, will lead with the theme "Women With A Mission".

"Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds." Hebrews 10:24.

Thank God for a warm place to worship and praise Him with wonderful Christian fellowship during the winter months!

-- Beverly Wilson, President

Missionary Church Day, Feb. 12, will see a much broader format this year. In addition to the usual noon meal and a time of fellowship, the day will continue with a second session following the afternoon service.

Missionary Church President Bill Hossler and his wife Margaret will be present to highlight many of the exciting things happening in Florida. Rev. Bruce Linhart, Florida Team Leader, will also be present.

Dr. Terry Zeitlow, VP of Development at Bethel College, will share updates from the college. He will have with him a student solist, Lindsey Tscheter who will sing in both meetings.

Jack French, one of our camp evangelists this year, will preach at the 10:30 service. Please make plans to spend this time in fellowship with Missionary Church members and friends. Please get the word out to others who would be interested in this event. If you have questions or comments about the day, email Ray Bachman:

The campus is filling up! Y'all hurry on down and join us. Drive carefully and arrive safely!

Those attending the Christmas Dinner nearly filled the dining hall! Delicious food, great company and an inspirational program blessed us all. Flornell (Flossie) Coller was honored as she celebrated her 98th birthday. What a blessing she has been to the camp for many years!

1 Peter 4:1-2

"Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin. As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God."

The Strange Preacher's Kid

Those who "knew me when" mock my life in Christ and accuse me of hypocrisy because of my past behavior. I felt unworthy to share the gospel until He reminded me that it is HIS gospel, not mine.
