July 2013

From Our Interim President

Dear Camp Family,

“Great is Thy faithfulness”--with these words of the song writer we look forward to our 75th Annual Camp Meeting. We look back to the faithfulness of the founding men and women of this camp with thankful hearts but look forward to our 2014 Camp meeting expecting God’s blessings. I encourage each of us to pray earnestly in the next weeks and months for an outpouring of God’s spirit of revival and refreshment.

  • Pray for Our Speakers and Music ministry, while they cannot bring revival they can be used of God to bring blessing.
  • Pray for the finances of the camp that every need will be met.
  • Pray for the Board of trustees that all decisions will be made in the will of God.
  • Pray for one another and love one another as Jesus prayed and loved us.

I am grateful for the support and encouragement of a great number of our camp family over the past months. Blessings await as we press on to the prize of the high calling. Changes and transitions call for us to keep our eyes focused on Jesus the founder and finisher of our faith. Therefore as we approach the 75th anniversary of The Avon Park Holiness Camp meeting let us be reminded of the mission established by the founders, to present the message of Holiness.

May God bless and enrich each of you in the days ahead.

In Service for Him and You,
-- Rev. Dean Gilkerson

Really? A Radio Station?

We hope and trust that you are praying with us about this opportunity which will not come our way again. The FCC last week set the dates of October 15-29 for our application to be submitted for a low power FM radio station for Avon Park Camp that should be able to reach from Frostproof to Sebring with the wonderful message of salvation in Christ Jesus.

The Camp Board has asked Ray Bachman to lead the Radio Committee in the beginning stages. Please pray about how you can be involved. We will need committee members to provide oversight and to work in various areas, such as office work, public relations, on-air people, engineers, fund raiser, volunteer coordinators, as well as a chairman and treasurer. You may also want to be one of the charter financial supports of the project.

Please send any comments, suggestions, or offers of help to Ray Bachman at radioavonpark@gmail.com. While we don't know how soon the FCC will act on our application, we hope to begin broadcasting over the internet by Camp Meeting 2014.

From Blanche Louthain

It was wonderful to visit with Viola Case and her daughter, Kim (a PhD on staff at Goshen College), as we attended the MasterWorks Festival near where I live.

John continues to be cared for in an Alzheimer's unit of a nearby nursing home. He is failing little-by-little. Thank the Lord for very caring people and that he remains pleasant.

Mark 12:17 NKJV

And Jesus answered and said to them, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” And they marveled at Him.

The Strange Preacher's Kid

We are taxed by the Federal Government on what we are privileged to earn in the economy facilitated by that government. What then is owed to God?

Although all things were made by Him, through Him, when Jesus said to render to God the things that are God's, he did not say, “Everything in your world is mine, so give it back.” He said that just as a coin is stamped with the image of our earthly authorities, we, as human beings, are stamped with the image of God. God's claim is on each individual's heart, mind, and life. He desires fellowship with us, and we respond with obedience to the guidance of His indwelling Spirit.
