From Our Interim President

Dear Camp Family,

Time is fast approaching for our 75th Camp Meeting services. God is helping us in preparing, folks are stepping up to help where needed and the Celebration Committee is continuing their work.

With Troy Hogue leaving us for other employment, we have been short-handed but our men have filled the gaps and we are moving forward. We are looking forward to our people returning from the north and bringing new life to the Campground.

I am requesting we join together in praying for Dr. Eldred Kelley and Luanne as they move to the Light and Life Free Methodist Church in Lakeland, Florida, to become the Senior Pastor.

Pray also for God's will in selection of new leadership for our ministry here. Dr. Tom Hermiz is allowing his name to be considered for our next President. The board of Trustees will vote on new officers at the Annual Meeting on Feb 4, 2014.

Giving for the Camp ministry has held up well during the summer months due to some special gifts. We are grateful to God for each of you who love the camp and show it by your giving. Bob Hudson can give you more details.

Prayer is needed for the trustee board as they work toward filling staff openings for the future. Pray also for our Camp Meeting workers as this will be a special time in the history of the camp.

Requests are coming in for rooms and apartments; please get yours in as soon as possible to avoid any disappointments. Our staff will be happy to you assist you with your arrangements.

-- Rev. Dean Gilkerson

From Our Treasurer

Greetings to our Camp Family,

We arrived back in Florida on September 3 and now are eagerly waiting for you all to arrive. Our financial position looks real good. From our August report we are showing $344,685.00 as total income and total expenses of $288,777.00; giving us a net income of $55, 908.00 for these eight months compared to the same period last year of $21 $21,935.00. The major difference is because our expenses are $51,578.00 lower mainly due to many hours of volunteer help with mowing and maintenance. Thank you all so much. Also, there were no major repairs on the camp properties.

We are now official members of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA). In 1979 when I was Treasurer of World Gospel Mission the program was promoted by Billy Graham and James Dobson to provide accountability through is leadership. We along with WGM along with OMS and 90 other non-profits were the charter members and now with Avon Park Holiness Camp joining, the membership is over 1,750. It's a great organization and I'll be sharing more information from them during Camp.

If you have been to a bank recently you have noticed there CD rates of .0l% to .05%. We have been blessed with 36 Gift Annuity participants and it's said of a gift annuity that it keeps on give; first to the donor for life and then to the charity. Our current rates would be from 6.0 to 8.0$ and that is based on the donors age. If you would like a non-obligation proposal, all I need is your date of birth and the amount you may be interested in investing.

Thank you all for your support and especially you continuing donors.

-- Bob Hudson, Treasurer

From the Office

The summer has passed by very quickly, faster than we wish to think, however with the passing of summer and our visit back North, its also time to begin making plans for Avon Park Camp.

I have mailed out reservation forms and do encourage folks to mail them back as soon as possible, so I can begin to assign rooms as well as apartments. I also would like to hear from Sponsors as well. It gives me an idea of when you will be arriving so as proper plans can be made prior to your arrival.Your cooperation is most helpful here in the office.

We are looking forward to your arrival and plans are moving forward for a great Camp.

Thank you,

-- Rosa Meek

From the Radio Committee

Work on the application to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is moving along well and should be ready for submission during the allotted time-frame of October 15-29, 2013. Plans at present call for beginning operation as an Internet Radio Station as quickly as possible. This will give us opportunity for training and experience prior to the beginning of over-the-air broadcasting.

Since we don't know how long it will take for the FCC to take action on our application, we can begin the first stage rather quickly and then be ready for stage two when the FCC has granted our license. A full report is too lengthy for this newsletter, so we will be sending you a special mailing very soon. Watch your inbox for material titled "Breadcasting for Broadcasting." Please be fervent in prayer for this new outreach for Avon Park Camp.

Thanks much,

-- Ray Bachman, Radio committee Chair

Bushongs Honored at Farewell Luncheon

Dr. and Mrs. Burnis Bushong recently were honored at a Farewell Luncheon attended by friends from the Oaks Village, Avon Park Holiness Camp and others from local churches at the Homer's Smorgasbord restaurant in Sebring. They will be returning to Marion, IN, to live in an Assisted Living Facility, near their family. They have three children, Lois, David, and Robert, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Burnis and Thelma have lived in Avon Park since l994, and were active supporters of the Camp. We wish them well on their new adventure. They will be missed.

Mark 14:18-19 NET

While they were at the table eating, Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, one of you eating with me will betray me." They were distressed, and one by one said to him, "Surely not I?"

The Strange Preacher's Kid

Even those closest to Jesus had their doubts about themselves. Perhaps they felt they might betray Jesus inadvertantly, unknowingly.

Sometimes we, too, may be distracted from God's will for us. We too, may betray him in our inadvertant attention to the affairs of the world. If you are too sure of yourself, satisfied, complacent with your relationship with God, it may be a sign you need to get closer, to feel your own humanity.
