From Our President

Greetings to the Avon Park Holiness Camp Meeting community!

I trust you are finding time during these summer months to be refreshed physically, mentally and spiritually.

These months are very busy for Ella Mae and me with numerous denominational and district councils and camp meetings. I will also be speaking at a couple of camp meetings in Ohio and Pennsylvania. In the midst of all the denominational activities I had the joy of officiating at one of our grandaughters' wedding.

You might be interested to know that I was re-elected to serve four more years as General Superintendent of the Churches of Christ in Christian Union. I want to thank Dean Gilkerson for overseeing activities at Avon Park in my absence. He keeps me well informed and we work very well together.

Let's begin now to earnestly pray for a great outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the 2015 camp meeting. Ella Mae and I are looking forward to getting to Avon Park. We hope to see you there.

Grace and Peace,

-- Tom

Reports and Requests

Greetings in the name of the Lord,

The past 14 years I have been privileged to have been on the Camp Board, and the last 12 years as Secretary of the Board, and Director of Business. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to serve in these capacities. I felt that I had been placed in the center of the Lord's will for me. During that time, many people, no everyone, prayed, gave and volunteered their time and labor to make the Camp what it is today. Many have gone on to heaven. Thank you all.

The Kelley Building had just been completed. What a wonderful addition to the Camp. Our debt was approximately $700,000.00 at that time. After the hurricanes in 2004, many buildings had water damage. Most of the buildings had new metal roofs installed. Major improvemets were made inside the dorms and duplexes, including AC, new carpeting, paint and furniture. We partnered with Highlands Coutny Emergency Management Agency to provide Hurricane Shelter for people with pets. We began to have other denominations use our facilities during the summers. What a blessing. Of course the Trailer Park had major renovations, including new Park Models, and utilities. A well was drilled, irrigation installed and sod laid in various places, creating beautiful grass. Today our effective debt, adjusted for annuities, is just at $25,000.00. All of that was accomplished by people working together for the Glory of the Lord, and the benefit of the Camp. Praise His Name!

After much prayer, I feel the Lord has released me from those responsibilities, to perhaps do something new. I have been on work and witness trips to Haiti three times in the last two years, Honduras last year, and just returned from Cuba. We would perhaps like to go on some homeland work trips. So, as you might have heard, I have retired/resigned from my responsibilities here.

Thank you again for your faithful support and friendship. We will continue to live here, pray, volunteer, and support the Camp to the best of our ability,

I trust that you will continue to support the next generation of Camp management.

God Bless Avon Park Holiness Camp. See you next camping season.

The Strange Preacher's Kid

Acts 1:8 NET

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the farthest parts of the earth.

Philippians 2:12-16a NET

So then, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence but even more in my absence, continue working out your salvation with awe and reverence, for the one bringing forth in you both the desire and the effort—for the sake of his good pleasure—is God. Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God without blemish though you live in a crooked and perverse society, in which you shine as lights in the world by holding on to the word of life .

What is this power we receive when the Holy Spirit comes upon us? Is it simply power to work miracles? No, it is much more. This power can make us strong enough to hold fast, to follow Him, even if we do not know where He is leading. It is the power to follow Him, to display moral excellence and ethical behavior; to be light and life to the world. It is the power, no matter what circumstances we endure, to remain in Him, in His Gospel, which is life. It is the power to unite with one another in his purpose, without grumbling or arguing, by keeping in mind our responsibility as His people regardless of the cost to our ego, our pocket, our pride.
