From Our President

Greetings to the Avon Park family of God,

I am looking forward to a couple of days in Avon Park for the Fall board meeting on November 21st. Then in late December Ella Mae and I will take a couple weeks of our vacation time to be back at the camp. We will then return in February for the camp meeting.

We still need your financial assistance for the urgently needed renovation of the evangelists' housing. Dale Dorothy has a couple of work teams coming in this fall to do the renovation work. With your financial help we should be able to complete this project debt free.

It is very important that we begin to bathe the Camp Meeting services in our prayers. We have an excellent team of workers but above all we must have the presence and power of almighty God.

Yours in Christ,
-- Tom Hermiz, President

From our Director of Operations

Our camp season is upon us! I will be leading the November and December Bible Study this year on Tuesday mornings at 9:00 am in Luce lounge. I look forward to seeing you there. Please mark this change of location and time.

Ray Bachman returns as Bible Study leader beginning January 10 and concluding March 28. There will not be classes on January 31 or February 7 due to Camp Meeting. Ray will be teaching from his book, Christians, Jews and the End Times.

Pastor Dean Gilkerson will be leading our Thursday morning prayer meetings, which will be held at 9:00 am in Luce Lounge, beginning in November. Please notice this is also a change in time and location.

We are also gearing up for a great season of Friday Night services, with the following speakers scheduled:

  • November 4, Dale Dorothy
  • November 11, Missionary Kevin Zirkle
  • November 18, Simply Faith Trio in concert from Arcadia FL
  • November 25, Tim Hawk
  • December 2, Nathaniel Haeck
  • December 9, Phil Murphy
  • December 16, (waiting for confirmation)
  • December 23, Dr. Tom Hermiz

Thanks, and God bless you!

-- Dale E. Dorothy, Director of Operations

KATY BETH and DAN SEARLS, missionaries with WGM in Hungary: Please pray for us October 14-16 as Dan is the preacher for the international high school retreat here in Budapest. The annual Snowbird Reunion had 52 Avon Park Camp members attend lunch Saturday afternoon, August 20 at Der Dutchman restaurant. We enjoyed seeing our friends, some who had not been able to attend camp for a while. Thank you, Glen and Lori Gailey for the planning, and Dave Coller for the devotional.

This is definitely a go again for next year!

The 78th annual Avon Park Holiness Camp Meeting is Thursday, February 2, through Sunday, February 12, 2017. Scheduled Evangelists are Dr. Doug Carter and Rev. Ray Lasalle, with Bible Teacher Dr. David Case and Rev. Mark Murphy, song evangelist.

The Strange Preacher's Kid

Proverbs 3:5-7 5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.

How are you doing in your walk with Christ? Are you growing in discipleship?

Baby Walk: Do you stumble a lot? take small unsure steps? Are you reaching to Christ to help you?

Maybe Walk: Do you pay more attention to worldly challenges and needs than you do to Christ's call? Do you try to balance your time between the world and Christ? Are you afraid of the world's response to your Christian walk? do you shortchange God?

Dependent Walk: Do you lean on Christ for every action, every decision? Do you truly allow him to direct your paths?

Walk Away: Have you decided that it is too much to follow Christ right now? Have you turned away from his path to follow your own?

It is so simple: Lean on HIM and HE will direct your paths.
